Role: UI Designer / Web Developer / Designer

  • Project Goal: Developed digital didactics to enhance information display, integrating an LG product to allow a single interface for accessing information across multiple screens.

  • Enhanced Functionality: Introduced an image viewer for viewing video screenshots at various time points, beneficial for long-duration videos to preview different moments without full playback.

  • Design Autonomy: After initial prototype approval, LG provided minimal input, granting full control over the design and build process.

  • Specific Requirements: Implemented LG's requirements for all-caps text at the top of the screen and a last-minute addition of a process video for artwork on “Screen 3” on the opening day.

  • Technical Responsibilities: Managed the Task Sequencing Engine to choreograph robotic performances and designed Spatial Intelligence Systems for real-time environmental interaction.

  • Animation and Motion Expertise: Utilized skills in animation, motion planning, and design with various technologies including Custom Dynamixel Robot, ABB, Gantry Carriage, and Chain Winch.

  • System Performance: Programmed sophisticated motion control systems tailored to each robotic component's needs, ensuring optimal performance and durability.

Task Sequencing Engine Programmer

  • Task Sequencing Engine (TSE) Management: Orchestrated the sequence and timing of events within the performance program using the TSE, integrating live data to ensure unique, dynamic responses and interactions from robotic components.

  • Scripting and System Modification: Scripted performances and designed developments for the TSE to meet evolving project requirements, involving a deep dive into its Python-based architecture.

  • Collaboration with Engineers: Worked closely with COI's software engineers to enhance the system’s robustness and accommodate changes effectively.

  • Innovative Software Development: Developed software mechanisms that functioned like a decision tree, triggering specific interactions based on conditions like position, direction, and distance, among others.

OptiTrack : Motion Capture Cameras

  • Spatial Awareness with OptiTrack Cameras: Utilized OptiTrack cameras to provide robots with a comprehensive understanding of their spatial environment, enabling precise recognition of their location, other robots, and objects around them.

  • Advanced Motion Capture Setup: Employed a dual marker system with active markers that emit light and passive markers that reflect infrared light from cameras, facilitating accurate motion capture.

  • Data Capture for Synchronized Movements: Captured essential position data to ensure coordinated and harmonious movements between robotic components and adapt to environmental changes in real-time.

  • OptiTrack Motive Software Utilization: Leveraged OptiTrack Motive software for camera calibration, world-space calibration, and management of markers, essential for sophisticated robot interactions and an adaptive performance environment.


IFM O3D305 : 3D Cameras, PointSelect.py (Custom Software)

  • Individual Tracking with 3D Depth Cameras: Utilized 3D depth cameras to assign unique identifiers to each individual, enabling precise tracking within the space.

  • Guidance and Orientation: Leveraged tracking data to direct the Gantry carriage towards individuals and orient the cube faces accordingly.

  • Customizable Animation Styles: Developed the capability within our system to select unique animation styles tailored to each individual, enhancing personalized interaction.

  • Adjustable Height Settings: Implemented height adjustments in PointSelect.py to specify the cube’s arrival height relative to an individual's stature, with options including head, chest, and waist heights for adults.


Documentation: Virtual Manual in Notion

  • Information Integration Challenge: Confronted with multiple information silos upon joining the project, I applied my experience from an Art Documentation app to organize and centralize varied data into a unified virtual manual.

  • Notion for Documentation: Utilized Notion to create a living document that serves as a comprehensive repository, continuously revised and updated with detailed information on each system component, including manufacturer specifics and component roles within the artwork’s system.

  • Instructional Content Development: Developed instructional content guided by principles from a course on “Creating End User Documentation,” emphasizing simplicity and task-specific focus.

  • Clear and Focused Documentation: Ensured documentation clearly identifies user interaction elements, like switches and buttons, using their exact labels to streamline user understanding and task execution, complemented by links to contextual details and error management.
